Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT)

Surface-breaking flaw detection on any non-porous material.

Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT) draws a coloured or fluorescent dye into surface-breaking discontinuities by capillary action; after developer is applied, flaws bleed out as clear indications. It works on virtually any non-porous material, including stainless steel, aluminium and many non-metals.

It is the go-to method for surface crack detection where the material is non-magnetic and MT cannot be used.

Typical Applications

  • Stainless and aluminium welds
  • Castings and machined components
  • Leak-path and surface crack screening
  • Non-ferromagnetic assemblies

Why TESKO NDT

  • Works on non-magnetic materials
  • Very low equipment cost and high portability
  • High sensitivity to fine surface cracks
  • Simple, well-established acceptance criteria
